Christy Skuban

the Art

This art expresses through abstraction the exchange between colors, and shapes of different pieces of painted wood, and their relational depth, which is enhanced by the push-pull of nearby and overlapping colors. The art is in the arrangement of the wood pieces which creates unexpected effects enhanced by the changing shadows cast onto the wall.
The success of this art is the building of a sense of movement or flow that directs and moves a viewer's eyes from one colored shape of wood to another allowing them to feel the overall harmonic whole that is art in three dimensions.

Hello. I am Christy Ann Skuban and I currently reside in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I welcome you to my colorful world of 3D wall art! I received my formal training in abstract painting and fashion design at The Art Institute of Chicago, Parsons School of Design NYC, and The Art Student's League of New York City.

Before I became an independent artist I was employed by Saks Fifth Avenue NYC as a fashion stylist for visual merchandising for 12 years. During this time and beyond I attended art school and developed my skills in 3D abstract painting and construction. Small models were often made first before I would create the larger pieces. Friends encouraged me to make jewelry from the models and this led to my love of jewelry design.

In 1991 life events brought me back to my mid-western roots where I began my career as a jewelry designer. I often described my jewelry as colorful wearable sculptures and visualized my pieces "blown up" again and on the wall! I have gone forward to re-explore and attain that vision even more. I continue to constantly look for ways to express through art the colorful, dimensional, and offbeat world that dwells inside of me
