The Art

Each of these artworks represents either a theme from environmental, folk, or outsider art. These multi-dimensional pieces are weaved into shapes providing the structure to display those items found in nature, reclaimed materials, or other interesting common materials. The meaning of these found materials are then strengthened and enhanced through the power of color and design.
Whether  it is a feather, a stick, a piece of bark, or other found items, this art is constantly moving down new paths, in many challenging and creative directions that will engage and surely surprise the viewer.

The Artist

Five years ago I retired from 33 years of teaching middle school art. After retirement, I became a member of the VAA to keep myself in the company of artists and their work. I have always been drawn to nature, folk, and outsider art. My favorite artistic-related quote is from Frederick Weston, “A true artist can be creative with whatever is available.” Things that are useful to me are often found in nature as I rarely leave a feather, stick, piece of bark, or a pod untouched. Not everything I do, however, is inspired by nature. Glitter and bright colors are often found in a favorite project of mine. I also enjoy weaving and stitching paper, which is also elements of some of my work. As an artist, I do love changing things up, trying new paths, and finding challenging ways to be creative. The quote that inspires me the most is from an "Outsider" artist, Frederick Weston "A true artist can be creative with whatever is available."
